It's been talked about for some time, and now the industry magazine The Hollywood Reporter is also reporting on the casting of Mark Ruffalo for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day". But that's not all: Michael Mando is also set to return as the Scorpion!

Mando was already seen in "Spider-Man: Homecoming" as gangster Mac Gargan alias the Scorpion. With his casting, the post-credit scene from "Homecoming" could now be picked up on: There, the character already announced that he had unfinished business with Spider-Man. Mando is best known for his role as Nacho Varga in the acclaimed "Breaking Bad" spin-off "Better Call Saul".

However, the Hulk's return has been no big secret for some time. It will be interesting to see what the character's role in "Brand New Day" will look like. In any case, the casting fits in well with the "Spider-Man" series. In the previous three films, Tom Holland's young Spider-Man has always been paired with an experienced MCU actor. We saw Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man in "Homecoming", Nick Fury in "Far From Home" and Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange in "No Way Home". It is possible that Mark Ruffalo's character will act as a kind of mentor. However, there is also speculation as to whether we will be dealing with a savage version of the Hulk.

In addition to Holland, Zendaya will return as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned. Jon Bernthal will also make his debut in an MCU film as the Punisher. The theatrical release of "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is set for July 31, 2026. Here is a first little teaser that gives a glimpse of Spider-Man's suit.

The rest of the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Sadie Sink, known from "Stranger Things", has been added to the cast – but her exact role is not yet known. Fans speculate that she could possibly be playing Jean Grey from the "X-Men" universe. The iconic mutants are set to play a central role in the MCU in the upcoming "Avengers" films. Other theories suggest Sadie Sink is more likely to be Mary Jane Watson or a new version of Gwen Stacy – both characters that were the focus of the "Spider-Man" films with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. There, the characters were played by Kirsten Dunst and Hollywood star Emma Stone respectively. "The Bear" actress Liza Colón-Zayas is also part of the cast. However, no information is yet known about her role either.

"Spider-Man" fans can also look forward to this

Tom Holland's Spider-Man will continue to play an important role in the MCU beyond "Brand New Day". But there are other projects for "Spider-Man" fans to look forward to. The Amazon series "Spider-Noir" is on the agenda. Nicolas Cage will take on the lead role in the live-action series. Spider-Man Noir is a private detective in a gloomy New York in the 1930s. The first images in black and white have already been released. A first teaser was even shown at an Amazon event. "Spider-Noir" awaits us on Amazon Prime Video in 2026.

Cage already voiced the character in "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse". We can also expect a new film from the acclaimed animated series in the future: "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse". The finale of the series is due to be released in cinemas on June 25, 2027. The plot of the third part will probably follow on directly from the cliffhanger of "Across the Spider-Verse". Since "Beyond the Spider-Verse" is the grand finale, we can expect several pivotal moments.
