- RipLinesManApril 23, 2025Locked and Event Horizon (1997) may play in different genres, but both are traps disguised as vehicles — one a luxury SUV, the other a ghost ship — and once you're inside, there’s no getting out without scars. Eddie’s descent in Locked mirrors the terror of Event Horizon’s doomed crew. Once the door seals, the real horror begins: the space isn’t just confined, it’s alive with judgment. Just as the Event Horizon reflects its passengers' worst fears, the SUV in Locked becomes a crucible, turning guilt and desperation into fuel for psychological combustion. Both films are about men trying to escape something far larger than the physical walls around them. Eddie runs from justice, but finds a twisted version of it waiting. In Event Horizon, the crew flees science and finds scripture written in screams. There are no safe exits in either film — only consequences, delivered one claustrophobic frame at a time. Where Event Horizon traps you in the void, Locked does it in metal and chrome. But the message is the same: it’s not where you’re going that matters — it’s what follows you in.
- Mr. DApril 23, 2025Is it classified as a thriller, horror? The only thing horrifying was the fact that every 10 minutes, I hesitated to turn it off and didn't trust my instincts. Watched the whole film, nothing changed or improved, but a couple scenes that one could call thrillerish, but it felt like 4 hours... Watch something else.
- jackmeatMay 3, 2025My quick rating - 6.2/10. Locked is a tense, stripped-down psychological thriller that leans heavily on its performances to drive a simple yet chilling premise. An American remake of the 2019 Argentinian film 4x4, this remake swaps out Buenos Aires grit for glossy U.S. polish, but retains the intimate, claustrophobic atmosphere that made the concept so effective in the first place. The film kicks off with a brief but effective look into Eddie’s world. Played by Bill Skarsgård, Eddie is a small-time crook with a complicated past, and in just a few opening moments, we’re given just enough character depth to make us question whether he’s a villain, a victim, or maybe a bit of both. When he breaks into a seemingly unoccupied luxury SUV, he unwittingly triggers a trap. The vehicle locks down, and Eddie becomes the unwilling subject of a twisted social experiment orchestrated by its owner, William (Anthony Hopkins). From there, Locked becomes a taut, two-man show, mostly confined to the inside of the SUV. Skarsgård delivers a compelling, at times desperate performance as Eddie. His frustration, confusion, and eventual descent into survival mode are deeply convincing, and his physicality within the cramped space really sells the increasing helplessness. Opposite him, Anthony Hopkins does what Anthony Hopkins does best: quietly dominates. Though mostly a voice through the car’s speaker system for much of the runtime, Hopkins brings a chilling sense of calm control to William, a man who believes he is delivering justice through psychological torment. The bulk of the film escalates through verbal sparring, as William toys with Eddie through moral lectures and menacing manipulations. The dynamic shifts as the torture becomes more methodical and brutal—deprivation, sensory overload, and emotional warfare. When the two finally come face-to-face, it’s a satisfying (if somewhat expected) climax, capping off a narrative that was more about mental breakdowns than big-budget set pieces. It’s important to note that Locked isn’t action-heavy. This is a survival thriller of the Buried or Phone Booth variety—an isolated character study more interested in psychological tension than physical spectacle. Director David Yarovesky (of Brightburn fame) keeps the tension steady and claustrophobic, though the film never quite transcends its core concept. Some moments feel derivative, and the morality play at its center doesn't probe as deeply as it could. What ultimately keeps Locked afloat is the strength of its two leads. Without Skarsgård’s emotionally raw performance and Hopkins’ magnetic menace, this would’ve likely landed as a forgettable thriller. As it stands, it’s a solid genre entry with a strong cast, a clear (if blunt) message about justice and redemption, and a grim sense of inevitability. Locked doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it spins with enough tension and talent to make the ride worthwhile, especially if you’re a fan of tightly contained thrillers. Just don’t go in expecting explosions and chase scenes. This is psychological warfare on four wheels.
- natas72716April 28, 2025Plot holes galore. Not particularly scary. This was a way to save money on casting, definitely could have been executed better. Not anthony Hopkins best performance.
- sadmuppetApril 27, 2025Kinda have to concur with other reviews - the production credits for the first (seemingly) minute or so, the general feel of it being a movie with just a duo (the other actors are incidental) and it just being "Phone Booth" with Colin Farrell except not as claustrophobic feeling essentially sums this movie up. The ending feels just weird given the dynamic of the characters (one you can sympathize more with, one just completely unlikable on every level), the feeling that someone meticulous would essentially make very bad choices at the end and the lack of any stakes, again with the comparison of "Photo Booth" being it's superior competitor in terms of scenario etc. Hollywood should and could do better - just "reimagining" a better movie, adding more buzzwords of today in a script and just making you apathetic towards a poor ending is not a great way of spending 90ish minutes.
- djaggApril 26, 2025Sooo many production logos lol The direction is quite dope. The roaming camera made the intro appear to have no cuts and it’s really well done. Kinda like the movie Heretic but for Crime and Punishment. Also the writing isn’t as good. Hell of a performance from Skarsgård! Very stomach turning!
- eyeofthetornadoApril 25, 2025Locked (2025) can be an alternate-universe homage to Stephen King’s Christine, feels like the twisted evolution of sentient machine horror—only instead of a demon-possessed Plymouth Fury, we get an AI-driven smart home security system with a psycho twisted batman wannabee Old Dr Lecter on its virtual and actual wheel.
- 匚卂尺ㄥApril 23, 2025A must see, Hopkins and Skarsgard put on a masterclass! It's hard to keep the viewer engaged in a one location movie but this one pulls it off perfectly. A lot of symbolism, and touching on classism going on from the get go and executed brilliantly. At one point i was holding tears back, because they really added a lot emotion in here. They beautifully amp up the pace and tension towards the end that leaves you at the edge of your seat. No wonder Raimi put his money on this, because it's an absolute blast! I 100% recommend it!
- Tom CooperApril 24, 2025Decent enough, it's not great. It's ok, bit budget feeling but gets better as it goes along. Hopkins is always great so added half a star, could have done with more screen time though. Passable to waste some time. I'm being a little generous with my rating admittedly.
- ichi214April 24, 2025Not a bad way to spend an hour and a half. A little bit of a slow pace in the first half, but the second half more than makes up for it. It got a little nastier than I was expecting and I always appreciate that as well as the, as expected, quality performances by Skarsgard and Hopkins. I can also usually get behind a "who's/what's good/bad" story. The score isn't very noteworthy and there's some poor weather/fire CGI sprinkled in, but I'm glad I spent time with this one.
- hayde56April 24, 2025Acting was good but the movie struggled to keep my attention.
- EnricoFlavioApril 24, 2025Anthony Hopkins is one of the best actors , but even in this movie he cannot make the movie great, this movie is such a crap movie, dont bother watching it
- branndon96April 24, 2025Decent thrill ride that begins to fizzle into something I wouldn’t recommend. Really wanted to like it with the actors in it.
